Recreational Society

Gelatin silver print. Measurements: 16.5 x 23 cm / 6.5 x 9.05 in. Work in good condition. It is displayed framed.

Group portrait of the members of the Recreational Society "Los sin divisa" who pose before the camera as a celebration in a ritual that brings them together to eat and enjoy. The photograph clearly expresses it with the gathering people who display some large loaves or that of the wine demijohn accompanied by those who hold the jugs and show the corkscrew. The country setting is expressed in the context and the close presence of a sulky.

The gentlemen show the plurality between urban people with their vests and those in rural clothing with a scarf around their necks. The only child located in the center of the image is kneeling, in a sequence of the row that ends with the musician of the team, standing ostensibly wielding a guitar. Together with the child, two diners present the banner of "Those without foreign currency." Surely, to show that the Society is beyond the fractions that divide the country between “white” and “red”, and that it is capable of bringing everyone together at the same table.

As a symbol of plurality, a hymn composed and signed by Guillermo Farnocchia is wielded (and delivered together with the photograph) that mentions and ponders the menu that the members of the brotherhood enjoy. The menu details the Spanish stew with chickpeas and bacon, gnocchi and macaroni with formaggio. There Chianti and Moscato coexist with Jerez, Champagne and Whiski. The Hymn ends in a modernitas stanza:

"The spleen we do not know

And we avoid sadness

With the wort or the beer

Or to the spell we care

From another Gloria three cumin

Nice dishes, good wines

It is our social reason.

In the field of collective portraiture, the most appreciated records are precisely those of this type, as they reflect the natural joy of their participants, good humor and disinhibition in front of the camera; They are attitudes far removed from the severe and stiff poses recorded in the galleries of professional studios.
