The city founded by Juan de Garay in 1580 was only captured by photography around the 1850s by the first American and European daguerreotypes. 120 years later, the artist Juan Gómez focuses his modern 35-millimeter camera on the famous Seaver Passage, already at that time in imminent danger of disappearing along the north line of Avenida 9 de Julio. At street level, his objective captures in a rich range of grays all the charm of this unforgettable Buenos Aires passage of only 100 meters -finally demolished in 1978-; first of all the old cobblestones with its cobblestones from Martín García Island, the popular Citroen 3 cv and Fiat 600, and as a finishing touch, the sinful marquee of the mythical cabaret "Can-Can" preferred by homosexuals and one of the three on that short street with Montmartre-type stairs in Paris.

We thank Luis Gelly Cantilo.
