Félix Faustino Outes (1878-1939) was an archaeologist and anthropologist who taught Ethnography courses at the Universities of Buenos Aires and La Plata. Member of the Academies of Sciences and of History, he directed the Anthropological and Ethnographic Museum of Buenos Aires between 1930 and 1938. He published numerous studies on the indigenous groups of Argentina. The book has a great complementary importance to the successive catalogs that were published by the Spaniard Pedro Torres Lanzas (1921) and the Argentine José Torre Revello (1938) referring to the maps and plans that are kept in the General Archive of the Indies in Seville.
