Thus, through events in which a harmonious union of the people and the government acts, the end of the first century and the beginning of the second of independent life of a nation are marked, constituting those, the greatest and most eloquent popular monument that point it out and remember it for future generations.

Preserving this monument founded by Mendoza's patriotism, during the week of May, is ultimately the purpose of this book, where all the background, all the chronicles and reviews of the festivities of the province are compiled, with the portraits and illustrations necessary to do the complete work; so that tomorrow, those who read and those who consult after a century, do justice to the present generation, and be inspired by the eloquent and recognized fact that the Mendoza tradition, -to which its historical motto responds, and its advanced post of national sentinel, and its feelings of deep and solid American fraternization, which made it the cradle of freedom of half the Continent, - is preserved as a seal, as a character, as a virtue, as a pride and patrician nobility of the Mendoza soul of all the time.
